- Algeciras, its environment
The Algeciras School of Engineering and Technology is located in the city of Algeciras. It is a coastal city with approximately 140,000 inhabitants, which has always been linked to the sea. You will experiment this in the openness of their people, their fiestas, the port facilities…
In the city, there are some spots you cannot miss: la plaza alta, , the historic centre and meeting point of locals and many of the city events; la plaza de abastos, the city market, designed by the engineer Eduardo Torroja; el barrio de San Isidro, boasting its white houses and cobbled streets; the Maria Cristina park, the Reina Cristina hotel where the International Conference on Morocco took place in 1906, etc.
Among the main fiestas, it is remarkable the Tosantos Fiesta (October, 31st), the living Nativity scene (Christmas), the Holy Week (March – April), the Royal Feria (June), etc..
The natural environment of Algeciras is a real gift. Not so long away from the city centre, you may enjoy beautiful beaches such as Getares or El Rinconcillo, etc. Moreover, you may enjoy natural routes hiking or riding through unique landscapes in Los Alcornocales Natural Park or the Strait Natural Park: rio de la Miel, Garganta del Capitan or Bosque de Niebla routes, etc…
