Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy Engineering (GIER)

The global energy transition demands a new generation of professionals with cutting-edge scientific training and a comprehensive vision of the energy sector. The Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Cádiz trains multidisciplinary technical experts, capable of leading innovation, the management of sustainable energy resources, and the technological design of the infrastructures of the future.

The central objective of this degree is to provide students with high technical qualifications to perform leadership roles in the renewable sector, focusing on the acquisition of critical capabilities for:

  • Technological design and conceptualization of systems for the generation, storage, and distribution of clean energy.
  • Technical management and optimization of installations and energy plants (wind, photovoltaic, biomass, etc.).
  • Learning cutting-edge methods and theories, providing the engineer with the necessary versatility to lead technological innovation.
  • Complex problem solving with initiative, decision-making, creativity, critical reasoning, and the ability to transmit technical knowledge in the field of renewable energies.
  • Preparation of technical studies, reports, and feasibility plans, as well as the execution of specialized technical calculations, measurements, and assessments.
  • Supervision of regulations and quality standards, ensuring that proposed solutions comply with mandatory safety regulations and standards.
  • Social and environmental impact assessment, ensuring the technical and ethical feasibility of the proposed solutions.
  • Strategic planning and operational management, integrating quality methods and working in multilingual and multidisciplinary industrial environments.

In accordance with the guidelines of Royal Decree 822/2021, the curriculum is structured into 240 ECTS credits, distributed over four years of 60 credits each. The design includes a solid foundation in basic engineering training, reinforced by mandatory and specialized subjects in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Electronic Engineering. The program culminates with the Bachelor’s Thesis (TFG), where the student demonstrates the practical application of the knowledge and skills that define their technical profile.

Note on Professional Qualifications: This degree has been designed with a multidisciplinary technological specialization focus. Therefore, it does not directly grant the professional attributes of the regulated profession of Industrial Technical Engineer (Order CIN/351/2009). However, depending on the specialization track chosen by the student, and through a training supplement of only 3 subjects (Theory of Mechanisms and Machines, Industrial Drawing, and Engineering Projects) along with a Bachelor’s Thesis consistent with said specialty, the student can also obtain the corresponding specialist degree (Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering) and its corresponding legal attributes. This model allows the graduate to enter the labor market and complete their professional certification in a flexible manner tailored to their area of expertise.
